The Santander City Hall is the seat of the City Council, which governs the city and the municipality. It is presided over by the mayor, who is democratically elected. Currently, Gema Igual (PP) holds the position. The PP has had a strong political presence in the city, regaining an absolute majority in the 2023 elections.
