The Plaza del Mercado Chico, the main square of Ávila, is located in the city center, within the old city walls. It is a rectangular square with arcades on three sides. It is oriented on a northeast-southwest axis, with the Town Hall on the northeast side, and opposite it, on the side without arcades, the Church of San Juan Bautista.
